The Shiraz Trail

One of the most well-known trails in the McLaren Vale wine region is the Shiraz Trail. The 8km walking and cycling track stretches from McLaren Vale to Willunga and has been constructed along a disused rail corridor.

This iconic trail is a favourite among locals and visitors because of its mostly flat terrain and vineyard views.

You can opt for a leisurely stroll, jog or cycle along the Shiraz Trail from McLaren Vale through to the township of Willunga to experience the historic town, cellar doors, Farmers Market or take one of the detours available en route:

  • Choose to venture North East off the Shiraz Trail near Railway Terrace in McLaren Vale to explore the 3.6km scenic trail for families, runners, riders and walkers, known as the Flat to Vale Trail. This section connects the townships of McLaren Vale and McLaren Flat and provides access to cellar doors on Foggo Road.
  • Or, take pause at McMurtrie Road to experience the many cellar doors and restaurants along the McMurtrie Mile.

Where to Start

The joy of the Shiraz Trail is that you can join it at many places along the 8km stretch but a good place to start is at Oxenberry Farm Wines, 26 Kangarilla Road, McLaren Vale.

Here, there is ample roadside parking on Kangarilla Road, you can hire an e-bike and you are ideally positioned to opt to head North along the trail to McLaren Vale, South towards Willunga or connect onto the Flat to Vale Trail.
