Bondar Wines
In 2014, Bondar Wines found their home at the Rayner Vineyard on Chalk Hill Road, McLaren Vale. Perched between the Blewitt Springs and Seaview sub-regions, it's one of the region's best-known blocks, with vine plantings dating back to the 1950s. Shiraz and Grenache dominate the site — varieties the region does exceptionally well.
The eastern side of the vineyard sits on a large sandhill, part of the Pirramimma sandstone belt. The old vine Shiraz here produces lighter, fragrant wines with savoury depth — exactly the style we aim for.
Since taking over, they've expanded the vineyard with close-planted Counoise, more bush vine Grenache and Mataro, plus Carignan, Cinsault, Touriga Nacional, and Sagrantino. We farm using organic practices where possible and are proud members of Sustainable Winegrowing Australia and the EcoVineyards project, which supports native habitat regeneration on selected vineyard sites.
