Winter has well and truly settled in. The days are brisk and the vines, with their leaves now shed, are showing their beautiful winter forms. This is the time of year to rug up and enjoy the warmth of an open fire and a shared bottle of McLaren Vale red with friends.

Whilst it’s tempting to hibernate during winter, there is still so much to enjoy in McLaren Vale during the colder months and many of our region’s venues have open fires to keep you warm and toasty.

Settle in for a relaxing afternoon with a red wine flight and a platter in front of the fire at Hugo Wines or Shingleback Wine.

If an open fire in a country pub is more your style, you can’t go past the Vale Hotel in McLaren Vale, The Victory Hotel in Sellicks or the Old Bush Inn in Willunga. Be sure to allow extra time for a yarn with the locals.

At South Coast Brewing Company in Willunga, the chesterfield sofas are a perfect accompaniment to wintry stouts, dark ales and a roaring fire.

Of course, if you delight in standing around an outdoor fire with a glass of wine in hand, then head to Pertaringa Wines, Sherrah, Bondar Wines or Lino Ramble where they have their fire pit ready and waiting on dry weekends.
