1. VARNEY WINES
Cellar door currently closed but you can order online and enjoy in the comfort of your own home.

🏆 Best Grenache Predominant Blend: Varney Wines 2021 Grenache Mourvèdre Touriga

This wine is fantastic for warmer weather being lighter on its feet, with a bit of zippy acidity and moderate tannin levels. We even recommend throwing it in the fridge sometimes on a warm day. It’s a fantastic red wine alternative for summer so certainly it’s something to bring to barbecues and something you may have down the beach even.

Here's Winemaker Alan Varney with more on the trophy winning wine:

2. SHINGLEBACK WINE
3 Stump Hill Road, McLaren Vale

🏆 Best Cabernet Blend: Shingleback The Gate 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz

Vibrant black cherry red. Blackcurrant and blueberry Cabernet aromas meld with the blackberry and savoury earthiness of the Shiraz. Moreish chewy fruit tannins, along with a slate-like minerality restrain the luscious dark berry mid-palate.

🏆 Best Shiraz Three Years or Older: Shingleback D Block 2018 Reserve Shiraz

Deep red. Primary aromas of blackberry and boysenberry are highlighted with elements of couverture chocolate and freshly turned soil. The full-bodied palate is brimming with ripe, black berry fruit, complemented with fine tannins, an earthy minerality and savoury notes.

Here's more from Shingleback's Cellar Door Manager David Graham and Winemaker Dan Hills:

4. CHALK HILL

🏆 Best New and Emerging White Wine: Chalk Hill 2022 Vermentino

This wine shows flavours of stone fruit and melon, with citrus flowers and hazelnut notes. A long fine finish and is well balanced.

🏆 Best Other Red and Blends: Alpha Crucis 2021 Blewitt Springs Mataro Grenache

Focused red currants, dark cherry and blueberry fruits provide a vibrant front palate. It’s medium to full bodied with a tight knit palate with tension between the fruits and the spice and savoury undertones. The tannins finish firm with tar and spice lingering.

We caught up with Chalk Hill owner Tom Harvey to find out more about these trophy winning wines:
