The McLaren Vale region is synonymous with almond trees. For generations, almonds have been farmed in the region and many of these almond orchards are still in existence today. In particular Willunga is famous for its almond trees.
Almond trees are dormant over the colder winter months with blossom usually occurring from late July to early September. This show of spectacular almond blossom colour is a beautiful sight and coincides with the annual Willunga Almond Blossom Festival. This year the Festival will celebrate 53 years and will be held over two days; Saturday 30th & Sunday 31st of July.
The Festival welcomes families for a weekend of show rides, side shows, animal nursery, giant games, circus entertainers, camel and pony rides plus when you get hungry and want to slow down, there is a variety of food trucks, live music, and market stalls to browse. Gather the family for the Saturday night fireworks show or enter in the Almond Cookery Competition with winners on display or have a go in the Almond Cracking Competition on Sunday.
