Fun for the whole family

Relaxed, friendly and safe - McLaren Vale is a wine and tourism region that welcomes all visitors, big and small!

With an abundance of family-friendly cellar doors and cafes, playgrounds, walking trails and restaurants, there's no better place to spend some quality time during the school holiday break.

Some itinerary suggestions for fun in-region activities for families includes:

Sausage rolls and park hangs

If a bakery visit and park adventure are on the cards, a wander down the Shiraz Trail (pictured) to Willunga's nature play playground and skate ramp will deliver for big and little kids alike.

A cellar door for the whole family

McCarthy's Orchard is a rustic family friendly cellar door that offers special drinks just for adults, whilst the little ones can meet a pony, donkeys and inquisitive free-range chickens before tucking into the perfect grazing platter for little fingers and tummies.

Fairy gardens and picnic rugs

Coriole Vineyards has spectacular cottage gardens that make beautiful backdrops for family photos. The sprawling lawns are perfect to lay down a picnic rug and enjoy a bottle of wine from cellar door or some artisan cheese.

Pizza, views and family friendly

Pizzateca features a rustic wood oven which inspires a menu with a focus on traditional Italian style pizza and super-fresh seasonal produce, matched perfectly to wines. Pizzateca is a family friendly venue as well.

Active kids and laidback parents

Oxenberry Wines located on Kangarilla Road is adjacent the Shiraz Trail and is the perfect runway for (supervised) bikes and scooters, there's also an established wetland to explore and a great lawn for balls and frisbees. The cafe offers coffee and cake or more substantial meals with wine tastings and platters for the bigger kids.

Alpacas, playgrounds and an eco-trail for learning

Gemtree Wines has a great hill for rolly-polly's, some resident alpacas, a playground and some wine and platter food. Nearby is the Gemtree Eco Trail - perfect for a game of nature eye-spy!
