Beat the winter blues with McLaren Vale reds

Winter may not receive the same attention as its sunnier and more colourful sibling seasons, but there is something very alluring about a cold winter’s day, a warm fire, a glass of red and a bowl of steaming hot comfort food. Winter is truly the best season to be indulging in our region’s red wines. We have curated the perfect list of wineries to visit, all red wine trophy winners from the 2020 McLaren Vale Wine Show.

Topping the list is Chalk Hill Wines – home to the Bushing King and Queen and the best wine in show in 2020, the Alpha Crucis Old Vine Grenache. Next on the list are Shingleback Wines and Serafino Wines who both collected a swag of trophies for their Shiraz and Cabernet wines. If blends are more your style, you can’t go past Bondar Wines, Shottesbrooke or Mitolo Wines.

Of course, nothing complements a glass of red quite like a hearty winter dish. Be sure to check out this month’s recipe from our friends at The General Wine Bar and Kitchena delicious Lamb Shepherd’s Pie.
