Contemporary Australian art gallery Praxis Artspace and McLaren Vale winery Ortus Wines have announced an exciting collaboration that combines the best of contemporary art with world-class wine—all in the heart of the McLaren Vale wine region. Visitors can now enjoy the full Ortus Wines' range at exhibition openings, while Praxis Artspace will curate satellite exhibitions at the cellar door, contributing to the rich cultural landscape of an already vibrant and artistic region.
Located in the Willunga suburb of the McLaren Vale wine region, Ortus Wines is Australia’s only mother-daughter owned and operated winery. Julie and Paige grow grapes on their own McLaren Vale vineyards and oversee every step of production, crafting their signature Ortus Shiraz along with other varietal wines including Chardonnay, Grenache, Tempranillo, and Cabernet.
"Our goal is to create wines that tell a story—our story and the story of the land we nurture. We’re thrilled to work with Praxis Artspace to offer a new way for visitors to connect with wine, art, and place." says Paige Cooper, owner of Ortus Wines.
Praxis Artspace, founded by Patty Chehade, is a contemporary gallery and studio hub located in Bowden, just outside of Adelaide's CBD. Since its establishment in 2015, the gallery has been committed to showcasing innovative art across a range of mediums, with a strong focus on supporting both emerging and established artists. It serves not only as a public exhibition space but also offers affordable studio residencies, providing artists with the opportunity to develop and display their work in a dynamic environment. Praxis Artspace is known for its thoughtfully curated exhibitions that explore social themes and challenge artistic conventions. They regularly collaborate with artists to bring immersive and thought-provoking projects to life.
"We believe in bringing art into spaces where people can engage with it more personally. Partnering with Ortus Wines allows us to introduce art into a setting where conversations naturally flow, adding depth to the experience." says Patty Chehade, Founder of Praxis Artspace.
MICHAEL CARNEY AT ORTUS WINES
Praxis Artspace's first satellite exhibition to kick off the partnership.
The collaboration will officially launch with the Sunset Satellite Exhibition, opening at Ortus Wines Cellar Door on Saturday, 2nd November 2024. The exhibition will continue until Sunday 2nd February 2025. This inaugural exhibition will feature the works of Adelaide-based artist Michael Carney. Michael works across disciplines like painting, ceramics, 3D printing, installation, and virtual reality. His artwork often explores distorted landscapes, combining symbols and elements that evoke both beauty and terror, drawing from the sublime romantic tradition. His style varies from melancholic to cinematic neo-noir, encouraging unique interpretations. Carney has exhibited across Australia, with his ceramics practice being notably influenced by time spent in Jingdezhen, China.
Relish in delicious wine from the Ortus range, whilst enjoying the stunning artwork of Michael Carney curated by Praxis Artspace, all set against a backdrop of sunset-lit skies and majestic old gums.
