The McLaren Vale Geolocation Dashboard collects anonymous visitation counts to the McLaren Vale region by detecting Bluetooth and Wi-Fi device connectivity. Fifteen detection beacons are installed across the region to understand travel flow, popular destinations and counts for overnight visitors. This trend data informs important business making decisions and better equips our region’s businesses and the Association to better service tourism visitors. All data is aggregated anonymously and no personally identifiable information is collected or stored. Data is a reported as a trend analysis, detection numbers are not per person, but per detection.
(i.e. Vehicle Bluetooth and mobile phone Bluetooth could be detected for a single visitor in the region but counted as two individual detections).
Unfiltered or raw detections occur when a visitor is near or passes a detection beacon. A visitor may be detected several times during their visit, or may be an employee or resident in the region.
A tourist is defined as a visitor which has not been detected for more than 5 of the last 30 days, suggesting a short term stay or day trip to the region.
